Digitanimal deploys IoT and blockchain traceability on ISBE

Digitanimal is a Spanish technology company specialising in digital solutions for livestock management.
Within the framework of the Extensive Livestock Traceability project, it has developed a solution that connects data generated by IoT field devices with a blockchain infrastructure, aiming to improve traceability, auditability and information reliability.
The project addresses a specific challenge within the sector: livestock activity data is typically fragmented across manual records, private platforms and administrative databases that are not always interoperable. This fragmentation hinders consultation and verification, limiting the ability of producers to provide reliable evidence for CAP management or the verification of environmental and animal welfare parameters.
A Relevant Sectoral Solution
Digitanimal resolves this issue by integrating all events across the animal life cycle into ISBE: geolocation, grazing management, reproductive indicators, health records and movements, among others. The solution collects data from IoT livestock tracking and monitoring devices in the field, processes and analyses the information, and creates an immutable record that any party can verify without intermediaries.
The result is a digital animal passport, accessible via QR code, which enables consumers to ascertain where an animal was born, where it grazed, what treatments it received and how it reached the processing facility. These tools consolidate registered information and facilitate consultation through web and mobile interfaces adapted for other stakeholders, including livestock farmers, public administrations and value chain actors.
The solution has been deployed, tested and validated on operational farms, where several herds were monitored using 100 GPS devices designed and manufactured by Digitanimal. This plug and play solution is compatible with six connectivity technologies, making it suited to rural environments with limited infrastructure.
Beyond technology, the primary value of the project lies in converting field data into auditable digital evidence. This assists livestock farmers in proving specific practices and reducing reliance on manual records, enables public administrations to streamline information verification, and opens new opportunities to certify attributes related to origin, sustainability and production conditions.
It is not about placing blockchain in the field, but about ensuring that what occurs on a farm can be proven. Converting real-world data into verifiable evidence allows us to better recognise sound farming practices, simplify audits and build trust across the entire value chain, stated Ruben Blanco, Commercial Director at Digitanimal.
