Public administrations: efficiency, traceability, and transparency

Event date:
Time: 13:00

The adoption of blockchain in Public Administration marks a decisive step toward more efficient, transparent, and citizen-centered governance.

In this webinar, Almudena de la Mata (PhD, Max Planck Institute–University of Hamburg), CEO of Blockchain Intelligence and Board Member of Alastria, analyzed how this technology can strengthen institutional trust, improve process traceability, and ensure regulatory compliance within a secure and interoperable environment.

The session explored the key drivers of this transformation, including blockchain applications in digital identity, verifiable credentials, public procurement and grants, as well as the certification and registration of public data with real-time traceability and auditability. It also examined the automation of administrative processes through smart contracts, enabling cost reduction, faster procedures, and enhanced transparency.

De la Mata further highlighted the opportunities blockchain offers in the smart cities domain, with projects integrating interoperable mobility, peer-to-peer energy systems, waste traceability, and data-driven urban management based on verifiable data. In all these cases, the technology acts as a guarantor of integrity and trust, enabling a more efficient and auditable public-private collaboration model.

Another central focus of the session was governance and interoperability: from data validation through trusted oracles to the design of secure, sustainable networks that facilitate connectivity between different blockchains. The speaker emphasized that the true value of blockchain in Public Administration lies in its ability to enhance transparency, reduce fraud risk, and create trust-based systems between public and private entities.

In this context, ISBE consolidates its role as a key enabler of this vision. Conceived as a public, interoperable infrastructure aligned with Europe, ISBE will provide the trusted environment required to deploy sustainable, traceable, and secure digital services, driving efficiency and improving the quality of citizen services.
